Pantone Releases 2017 Color of the Year
It’s that time of year again, folks! Pantone has released it latest prediction as to what the color of the year is going to be.
In steps:
GREENERY: #84BD00
Here is their cute video to sell you on the idea:
First Impressions
I have to admit, I’m not super stoked about this color. I guess Pantone thinks that 2017 will be the year of eco-friendliness and perhaps their right. It just doesn’t really feel like they hit the nail on the head this year like they did last year.
If it was me, I would feel like it should be one of the following:
Grey
Isn’t everything grey these days? I feel like grey is definitely here to stay for a while and is in it’s peak as a solid neutral. Pantone probably thinks that no one is really thinking of grey as a color and wants something more “fresh.”
White
Boring? Yes. Simple? Yes. Honestly, I feel like large areas of white space are making a comeback in both design and home decor. Again, I can see why Pantone wouldn’t pick white since it’s not sexy enough but I think white is trending.
Pink
Yes, they picked pink last year, but the pink of 2017 seems to be trending brighter and bolder. They probably didn’t want to repeat themselves. Women all over are celebrating their womaness and I think pink is going along for that ride. I expect to see lots of pink going bold this year.
Bright colors
Although neon seems to be on the way out, I feel like bold and bright colors are definitely here to stay for a while. With the rise of Instagram, I feel like colors are starting to be punchier so they stand out from the crowd. Granted, Greenery is a bolder color than last year but I don’t think it has enough oomph to be in the category of bright colors.
RGB, CMYK, and HEX
Gotta give them props in the fact that they released a very extensive color guide that includes all of the RGB, CMYK, and HEX colors this year. Here is a cheat sheet for you in case you think you need more Greenery in your life:
